Karen Tsiropinas, LMSW
She/Her/Hers
Psychotherapist
Karen Tsiropinas has over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, young adults and families. She has experience with individuals and groups, and follows a strength based perspective in all of her work. Karen received her Masters in Social Work from the Columbia University School of Social Work, with a clinical focus on children, youth and families. She has supervised Social Work Interns from graduate schools throughout New York City for over ten years.
Karen’s many years working as a school social worker with the DOE has given her insight into how children function in school away from their families, and the many challenges that can arise from this separation. She has a keen ability to connect with youth, and work with them to identify their challenges and struggles. In addition to this, she works with the parent to see the world from their child’s perspective while working as a unit to comfortably communicate challenges and overcome obstacles.
Karen has been a part of many interdisciplinary teams and has worked with child services, hospitals, mental health professionals, doctors, educators, parents, family guardians, foster parents, social service agencies, and more, while always keeping the best interest of the individual client in mind. She has advocated for her clients and helped to mediate interpersonal conflicts which have led to social and emotional disruptions.
In addition to early childhood and elementary aged clients, Karen has worked with adolescents and young adults, guiding them to reframe their challenges and encouraging them to lead and grow with strength.
The pandemic has made impactful shifts in the way humans interact. It will continue to have a ripple effect on the mental health and wellbeing of individuals, and affect the dynamics of the systems in which they function. As a result, there has been a major change in the way adolescents gain independence and transition to later stages in life. Karen is able to build trusting relationships with her clients and works with them to ease the adversity of life transitions, aiding her clients to enter the next stage of life with competence and confidence.
